Home Learning at Fielding
At Fielding, learning is fun—and that includes learning at home! We call it home learning, not homework, because it’s designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and involve families in the learning journey.
Why Home Learning?
Research shows that for primary-aged children, the most effective home learning:
- Involves practice and repetition
- Supports key skills like reading, spelling, and times tables
- Encourages creativity and independence
- Helps children enjoy learning beyond the classroom
Our Approach
- Reading: At least 20 minutes, 5 times a week, with or to an adult
- Spelling: Weekly practice of age-appropriate patterns, ready for dictation
- Number Bonds/Times Tables: Regular reciting to build fluency and problem-solving skills
How We Support Families
- English and maths books sent home once per half-term to share progress
- Weekly home learning tasks shared on each Year Group Noticeboard
- Resources and routines clearly explained to help parents support learning
Home learning policy
Our Home learning policy is written in order to inform all members of our school community of our common vision and to provide guidance about how to achieve this vision through the use of consistent agreed routines.
